No matter what anyone says... The Hamas-Israel talks held in Sharm El Sheikh resulting in a ceasefire in Gaza is the most important international development of the recent period.
Otherwise, the US President would not have rushed to Egypt and would not have been so eager to give the message that "I am the true architect of peace."
No matter how much Trump tries to use Gaza as personal PR material, everyone knows the truth... Behind the scenes, it is Recep Tayyip Erdoğan who has brokered this ceasefire, brought the US and Israel to the same table with HAMAS, which they have declared a "terrorist organization," and made them direct interlocutors.
Türkiye is now the guarantor nation of the Gaza agreement. In the words of President Erdoğan, "We will continue our struggle until an independent, sovereign, and geographically unified Palestinian state is established in Palestine, based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital."
Because this isn't just a Palestine and Gaza issue anymore. A murderer and his team, so reckless they were ready to declare war on the world, were barely stopped by the US President's persuasion. But only for now. Israel is a country that hasn't honored any agreement it has ever signed. We must be hopeful for lasting peace, but we must remain cautious. There's no guarantee these murderers won't violate the ceasefire tomorrow.
Still, this isn't a day for pessimism. The oppressed people of Gaza, the children, will not die today. That's something. And a lot of things.
