Türkiye is a country known for its rich cultural heritage and history. However, one of the social problems Turkey faces is stray dogs. Stray dogs have become a part of daily life in many parts of the country. In this study, the situation of stray dogs in Turkey, the difficulties encountered and potential solutions will be discussed.

The Situation of Street Dogs

In Turkey, stray dogs are generally homeless, abandoned or born directly on the street. These dogs are common in both major cities and rural areas. Various factors play a role in the increase in the number of stray dogs:

  • Abandonment: Pet owners abandoning their dogs causes the number of stray dogs to increase. Reasons such as economic difficulties, unconscious animal ownership and difficulty in caring for animals increase the rate of abandonment.

  • Lack of Sterilization: Inadequate sterilization programs lead to the breeding of stray dogs and an uncontrolled increase in the population.

  • Inadequate Shelters: The number and capacity of animal shelters in Turkey are insufficient to meet the needs of stray animals. Existing shelters are often poorly equipped and crowded.

Challenges Facing Street Dogs

Street dogs face many difficulties in order to survive:

  • Hunger and Thirst: Street dogs struggle with hunger and thirst because they do not have the opportunity to eat regularly and adequately. This causes health problems and shortened life spans.

  • Diseases: Stray dogs are vulnerable to infectious diseases. Diseases such as parasites, skin diseases and rabies pose serious threats to both dogs and humans.

  • Violence and Mistreatment: Street dogs can be exposed to violence and mistreatment from humans. Incidents such as injury, poisoning and death by unconscious individuals occur.

Solution offers

Various strategies and policies can be applied to solve the problem of stray dogs:

  • Sterilization and Vaccination Programs: Comprehensive sterilization and vaccination programs should be organized in cooperation with local governments and non-governmental organizations. In this way, the reproduction of stray dogs can be controlled and health problems can be reduced.

  • Education and Awareness Campaigns: Public awareness of animal rights should be raised. Love for animals and awareness of responsibility should be instilled in schools, media and social events.

  • Improvement and Increasing of Shelters: The capacity of existing animal shelters should be increased and new shelters should be built. Shelter equipment and staff training should also be improved.

  • Abandonment Prevention Strategies: Information and support programs should be created for individuals who want to adopt a pet. Support can be provided regarding veterinary services to animal owners experiencing economic difficulties.

  • Legal Regulations and Inspections: Deterrent legal regulations should be made against those who mistreat stray dogs and these regulations should be effectively inspected. Additionally, the implementation of laws that will protect animal rights should be ensured.

The problem of stray dogs in Turkey is an important issue not only for the animals but also for the general health and safety of society. Comprehensive and multifaceted strategies should be adopted to solve this problem. It is possible to increase the quality of life of stray dogs with the cooperation and sensitivity of all segments of society. In this process, both individual efforts and institutional policies are of great importance.

The Middle East geography has been a region where geopolitical competition frequently sparks. Relations between Iran and Israel constitute one of the most prominent examples of this competition. The developments experienced in recent days may reshape the balances in the region.

While Iran is defined as an actor that rejects Israel's existence and tries to increase its influence in the region, Israel carries out various policies and operations to limit Iran's influence in the region. Recently, the tension between these two countries has increased and fueled the conflicts in the region.

In particular, concerns about Iran's nuclear program have escalated tensions in the region. Although the international community has made various agreements to limit Iran's capacity to acquire nuclear weapons, there are problems in fulfilling and maintaining these agreements. Israel, on the other hand, sees Iran's nuclear program as a threat and advocates that the international community adopt a stricter stance on this issue.

These days, the tension between Iran and Israel manifests itself not only at the rhetorical level but also in concrete steps. Israel carries out air strikes against Iran-backed groups and carries out various operations to limit Iran's influence in the region. Especially with Israel's bombing of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus on April 1, 2024, and Iran's subsequent UAV and missile attacks targeting Israel on April 13, 2024, the Iran-Israel tension moved to another dimension. On the other hand, Iran responds with rhetoric and action against Israel and activates its allies in the region.

These developments have the potential to lead to larger-scale conflicts as they affect the political balances in the region. The international community must make greater efforts to prevent this tension from escalating and to find peaceful solutions. Important steps should be taken to keep diplomatic channels open and establish dialogue between the parties and reduce tension in the region.

However, in order for these developments not to progress to an even more dangerous point, the parties need to be careful and avoid provocative steps. The tension between Iran and Israel threatens stability and peace in the region, and the international community needs to play a more active role in this regard.

It is important for all parties in the region to prefer cooperation and dialogue instead of conflict in order to reduce tension in the region and ensure lasting peace. Only in this way can it be possible to resolve the tensions between Iran and Israel and create a more stable environment in the region. Reducing the tension between the two countries and ensuring stability in the region requires joint efforts of the international community.

It is not possible to ensure security and stability in the region without establishing an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. This course of events opens the doors of the Apocalypse to the third world war.

Türkiye has always been an important actor in global politics with its historical and geographical location. However, in recent years, the country's political scene has faced various challenges, resulting in an uncertain future expectation. However, important opportunities also lie within these uncertainties.

Authoritarian Tendency and Democratic Recovery: Turkey has shown a tendency towards authoritarianism in recent years during the Justice and Development Party's rule. Due to some populist policies, there has been a decline in basic democratic principles such as media freedom, human rights and independence of justice. However, this process is not irreversible. Turkey's political future can be shaped by strengthening democratic institutions and restarting the democratization process. This can only be achieved if political actors show a sincere will for democratic reforms and ensure the participation of different segments of society.

Global and Regional Dynamics: One of the important factors shaping Turkey's political future is global and regional dynamics. Conflicts in neighboring countries such as Syria, Iraq and Libya affect Turkey's foreign policy. Additionally, relations with the European Union and relations with great powers such as Russia and the USA also affect Turkey's political course. While balancing these dynamics, Türkiye can strengthen its political stability by emphasizing international cooperation and diplomacy.

Economic Challenges and the Need for Reform: Another important factor affecting Turkey's political future is the economic situation. Economic fluctuations, inflation and exchange rate fluctuations in recent years have increased uncertainty within the country. Structural reforms and sustainable growth strategies are needed to ensure economic stability. If the current government prioritizes economic reforms and pursues a transparent economic policy, it can strengthen Turkey's political stability and increase the confidence of international investors.

Social Harmony and Diversity: Turkey's political future will also be shaped by social harmony and diversity. Our country, where different ethnic, religious and cultural groups live together, should see this diversity as a wealth and provide an environment where everyone's rights and freedoms are protected. Promoting social tolerance, dialogue and participation can strengthen Turkey's political stability and social cohesion.

Although Turkey's political future is full of uncertainties, these uncertainties also contain important opportunities. Steps to be taken in areas such as democratization, economic reforms, international cooperation and social harmony can strengthen Turkey's political stability and enable the country to move towards a brighter future. In this process, it is important for political leaders and all segments of society to work together and unite around a common vision.
